Connecting each broker for auto-sync

Step-by-step connection guides for IBKR, Robinhood, Webull, E*TRADE, Schwab, TradeStation, and Tastytrade.

Auto-sync connects your brokerage through SnapTrade, so trades flow in without CSV exports. Most brokers just have you log in on the broker's own site — Interactive Brokers is the one exception that needs a little setup first. Start from Settings → Broker Sync or Brokers, then click Connect a brokerage. Below is the exact flow for each supported broker.

Your broker password is only ever entered on your broker's own website — it is never shared with SnapTrade or with us. Auto-sync is read-only: we sync your positions and history, not the ability to place orders.

Interactive Brokers

First, set this up in Interactive Brokers

  1. Enable third-party access in IBKR. In a separate tab, log in to IBKR (Client Portal) and turn on SnapTrade as a third-party service:
    • Open Performance & Reports from the top menu.
    • Go to Third-Party Reports.
    • Click the gear icon under Third-Party Services.
    • On “Configure Third-Party Services”, turn on the SnapTrade service.
  2. Copy your Query ID and Token. IBKR then shows a Query ID (6–7 digits) and a Token (24 digits). Copy both — you’ll paste them into SnapTrade.

Then connect in Ledger of Alpha

  1. Start the connection. Click “Connect a brokerage” and choose Interactive Brokers. Accept SnapTrade’s terms on your first connection, then Continue.
  2. Paste your Query ID and Token. The portal asks for the two values you copied from IBKR. Paste the Query ID and the Token.
  3. Submit. SnapTrade sends you back here. Map the brokerage account to a ledger account and your IBKR history syncs in.

You'll need: IBKR Query ID (6–7 digits) · IBKR Token (24 digits).

  • IBKR uses a token instead of a login — you never type your IBKR password into SnapTrade.
  • IBKR auto-sync is read-only (report-based). It syncs your trade history; it does not place orders.
  • Most common snag: the SnapTrade service wasn’t switched on under Third-Party Services, or the wrong Query ID/Token pair was copied.
  • Prefer a file instead? You can also import an IBKR Flex Query or Activity CSV — see the import guide.
  • Connections can go stale after a broker password/2FA change or a long stretch of inactivity — if syncing stops, just disconnect and reconnect. Your existing trades are kept.

If a connection stops syncing

Connections can go stale after a broker password or 2FA change, or a long period of inactivity. The fix is always a quick disconnect and reconnect, and it never touches your existing trades — see Fixing a broker connection that stopped syncing. For the bigger picture, see Automatic broker sync.
