Scaling in and out (partial fills)

Record multiple entries and exits with average-cost P&L.

Real trades often fill in pieces — you scale into a position and trim out of it. Ledger of Alpha records those as legs and computes average-cost entry/exit and blended realized P&L for you.

Turning on the legs editor

  • On the trade entry page, toggle Scale in / out in the order ticket.
  • Add entry fills and exit fills as separate rows — each with its own price, quantity, and fees.
  • A live summary shows your average entry, average exit, filled vs. open quantity, and realized P&L.

How the numbers work

Entry and exit are average-cost weighted across your fills. Realized P&L is computed on the closed quantity only, so a partially-closed trade shows realized profit on what you've exited and unrealized on what's still open. Fees are summed per leg.

From imports

Multi-fill trades imported from a broker CSV or auto-sync preserve their legs automatically — you don't need to rebuild them. See Importing a CSV file.
