The Headlines card on Markets lists general financial-market headlines for the day you are viewing, each with its source, when it was published and — where the provider identifies them — the tickers it refers to. The dot beside each one is the story's sentiment.
Markets can also carry a few symbols of your own in the Watching card.
How old the headlines are
Each headline shows its age beside the source — "Reuters · 2h ago" — measured from the time the publisher stamped it. A story more than a day old shows the weekday and time instead ("Fri 14:31", New York time), because "3d ago" says little about the session you are reading.
Headlines are ordered newest first. News reaches us through a third-party feed rather than directly from the publishers, so there is normally some lag between a story appearing and appearing here — the age is there so you can see how much, rather than having to assume.
Paid and free stories
Some stories sit behind a publisher's paywall, and some allow only a few free articles a day. Those rows say so after the time — "WSJ · 2h ago · Paywall" or "Limited free". The Paid + free / Free only switch in the Headlines header hides them; this browser remembers your choice.
If the headlines were empty
In early October 2026 the Markets headlines panel went empty on desktop and phone: the news feed it used stopped serving headlines. The panel has moved to a new news provider and fills again. Nothing else on the page, and nothing about your own trades, was affected.
If the news source does not answer, the panel now says Headlines are unavailable right now instead of No headlines for this session, so a quiet day and an outage no longer look the same. It usually clears within a few minutes; reload the page to try again.
If the times were missing
Until October 2026 the desktop and phone Markets pages showed only the source under each headline: the feed stamps stories in a compact format the page could not read, so the time was dropped instead of shown. It is read correctly now. Nothing else on the page was affected.
If the times looked wrong before
Until September 2026 Markets added your timezone offset to every headline's age, so stories read as several hours older than they were — three hours out for readers in Central European Summer Time, eight for Singapore, none at all for the UK in winter. The times shown now are the publishers' own. Nothing about your trades or any other figure on the page was affected; it was only the news timestamps.
Viewing a past day
Move the date on Markets back and the news moves with it: the panel then shows headlines published on that calendar day only, so a past session is not narrated with stories that had not happened yet. The age label will naturally read in days rather than minutes.
When the panel is empty
"No news available" means the feed returned nothing for that day. That is usually a market holiday, a date further back than the feed keeps, or a temporary outage — it is not a sign that anything is wrong with your account or your data. The rest of Markets is unaffected.
