A Blueprint with market, entry and exit conditions can be run on past bars: pick the assets and a date range and see how those conditions would have played out on each. A run is a simulation on past prices with a practice balance — its trades are never added to your journal, your analytics or your goals. Past performance is not indicative of future results.
Running one
On the Blueprints page, pick a Blueprint and press Run backtest. Add up to eight stocks, forex pairs or coins (the kinds its “Runs on” allows), choose the date range and the bar size, a practice balance, the risk per trade as a percentage, and a commission per side. A run uses the saved version of the Blueprint, so save your changes first. The results open on the Blueprint’s analytics page.
How a run trades
- Each asset runs on its own, with its own practice balance, and the assets are compared side by side.
- The conditions are checked at each bar’s close, using only that bar and the ones before it. When the market and entry conditions all hold, the entry fills at the next bar’s open.
- The stop and target are placed from the Blueprint’s exit at the fill price. A bar that opens past a level fills at the open; a bar that reaches both the stop and the target is assumed to have hit the stop.
- A target at an indicator (a moving average, a band, VWAP …) moves: on each bar it is the indicator’s value at the previous close, and the trade closes when a bar reaches it. An entry whose target is already behind the fill — price opened past the level — has nothing to come back to and is skipped. In a bar replay, Use Blueprint exits sets the same moving target, and it keeps following the level until you set the target yourself.
- A time limit closes the trade at the close of its last bar. A trade still open at the end of the range closes at the last close.
- One position at a time per asset. The size is the risk you set, as a share of that asset’s current practice balance, divided by the distance to the stop — and never more than the balance can buy.
- An entry is skipped (and counted) when its stop would sit on the wrong side of the fill, for example after a gap, or the size comes to nothing.
- Bars from before the start of the range are loaded too, so moving averages and other measures are ready on the first day.
Each Blueprint’s analytics page
Analytics on the Blueprints page opens two panes that are kept apart and never added together. Your trades shows the closed trades tagged with the Blueprint in the account chosen at the top — win rate, average R (for trades with a stop), net P&L, the running total, and whether trades that ticked every checklist item did differently from trades that skipped one, with the item skipped most often. Backtest runs shows one run at a time. It opens with the run in plain words — the bars and dates, how many trades the rules would have taken and how many won, and what each asset’s practice balance ended at with the risk you set. Below: the net result in dollars (each asset’s own balance, added up), the simulated trades, win rate, average R, the worst drawdown of any asset, the running total in dollars or in R, and a row per asset with its R and its dollars. You can delete a run there.
On the phone the two panes are a switch at the top (Your trades · Backtest runs). Tap the run’s name to pick another, delete one or Run again with the same assets and dates. Hold a finger on the running total to read a trade — a plain swipe still scrolls the page. Tap an asset for its trades on the chart: pinch to zoom, drag sideways to move through time, drag the price axis to stretch it (double-tap it to reset), and tap a trade — on the chart or in the list — for its card. The full-screen button fills the screen and follows your phone when you turn it sideways.
The run’s trades on the chart
Under the table, Trades on the chart draws one asset’s candles over the run’s dates with every simulated trade on them: a numbered dot where it entered, a dot where it left — green at the target, red at the stop, amber at the time limit, grey at the end of the range — the line between them in the trade’s result, and dashed lines for the stop and the target it started with. Pick the asset with the buttons above the chart (or click its row in the table). The list under the chart has every trade with its prices, dates, exit, R and dollars; click one to bring it to the middle of the chart. Hovering a bar inside a trade shows that trade’s figures. The candles are the ones the run traded on, from the same data source.
Sharing a Blueprint
Press Share and choose what the link includes: the conditions, the checklist and the description. Results are never shared — no trades, runs or P&L, and nothing that says who you are. Anyone with the link can open it; it is not listed and search engines are told not to index it. A link is a snapshot of the version you shared, so later edits do not change it. Someone signed in can press Copy to my Blueprints to get their own copy, or paste the link into Import on their own Blueprints page. The Share window lists your links with how many times each was copied, and Revoke turns a link off.
Which plan
The Blueprints page, the checklist and sharing are on every plan. Conditions, runs and the analytics page are part of Pro; on another plan, a Blueprint’s conditions can still be read but not changed.
